About Us

Kelvedon Dance Studio is based at the United Reformed Church and runs classes for Ballet, Modern, Tap and Jazz Dance.

We follow the ISTD syllabus and offer the opportunity to take examinations in the following subjects:-

  • Classical Ballet
  • Tap Dance
  • Modern Dance
  • Jazz Dance

Regular exam sessions take place throughout the year, where upon an examiner comes to K.D.S to assess the children and students. They are entered in pairs for Classical Ballet and usually in groups of three or four where the other subjects are concerned.

Results, report sheets and certificates are sent directly to the school.

Over recent years the marking system has seen several changes and is now in line with general education.

The marking scheme is as follows:-

  • Distinction (A)
  • Merit (B)
  • Pass (C)

Children are required to attend two classes per week in the given genre for approximately a term, prior to an examination.

Examinations are not compulsory, but provide a wonderful sense of achievement for all the hard work undertaken in order to meet the required standard.

Dance is for fun and enjoyment, therefore if a child does not wish to undergo an examination, once we feel they have reached the required standard, they will be moved up accordingly.

All I.S.T.D examinations results are monitored by the ISTD /QCA and all teachers must maintain the recognised pass rate to remain eligible to enter candidates in the future.
